This free, two day event is designed to give participants a full arsenal of tools to begin their cryptocurrency investigations. On day one you will hear from industry leaders, in the public and private sectors, who work cryptocurrency investigations across the country. Day two will be devoted to hands-on workshops, led by the Regional Enforcement Allied Computer Team (REACT) and the United States Secret Service (USSS). All attendees will leave on day two with a cryptocurrency investigation “tool kit,” containing legal process templates, other investigative resources, sample policies, and software to aid in seizures.
The Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office REACT Task Force is a diversified partnership of local, state, and federal agencies dedicated to combating high technology crimes. Since 2018, REACT has been successfully investigating and prosecuting multiple types of cryptocurrency-related crime, and has recovered millions of dollars worth of digital assets for victims.

- Tracing cryptocurrency using available tools
- Setting up a government wallet
- Seizing and forfeiting cryptocurrency
- Developing a protocol for handling cryptocurrency

We are delighted to have a crypto investigator pioneer as our keynote speaker: Chris Janczewski, a former agent at IRS-CI, has led some of the most important cryptocurrency-related criminal investigations ever. His role as the lead agent in the Bitfinex hack investigation led to the arrest of two individuals who laundered $4.5 billion in cryptocurrency. He obtained a seizure warrant that recovered $3.6 billion in cryptocurrency, then the largest seizure in United States government history. He has investigated multiple cryptocurrency exchange hacks attributed to North Korea, taken down a child pornography ring, and participated in global efforts to disrupt Hamas, Al Qaeda and ISIS cryptocurrency terrorist financing networks.
You will also hear from Detective Tony Moore (@LACyberCop). Detective Moore works in the Fraud & Cyber Crimes Bureau at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and is a task force officer with FBI Los Angeles. He has over 30 years of investigative experience and is a recognized expert on social media investigations, cryptocurrencies, dark web, NFTs, and emerging internet trends.
Experts from TRM Labs and Chainalysis will be on hand to demonstrate their commercially available software tracing tools. Leaders from crypto exchange Binance will discuss how to best interface with them and understand and use the information available from them.
All levels of expertise are welcome.
A laptop you have administrative rights to will be helpful during the workshops.
