Course Description: This course is designed to equip law enforcement officers with the knowledge to conduct methamphetamine investigations involving domestic and international traffickers. The course begins with the history of methamphetamine and current trends, including a section on the international methamphetamine trade controlled by Mexican drug trafficking organizations. The main portion of the class addresses how to perform methamphetamine investigations whether the targets are international traffickers or domestic local producers and distributors.
conclusion of the course addresses tactical considerations and supervisory
concerns; developing standard operating policy; effective courtroom testimony
techniques; and developing legislation to aid enforcement. The skills taught in
this class, while focused on methamphetamine, can be employed to other areas of
drug enforcement as well.
Instructor: Brian Sallee has 38 years of law enforcement experience with over 29 years as a narcotics detective. Brian is currently assigned to the Meth Unit with the Albuquerque Police Department. He is cross-commissioned with the New Mexico Board of Pharmacy as an investigator. Brian has been qualified as an expert witness, in reference to narcotics investigations and methamphetamine labs, in New Mexico State and Federal courts. He teaches the Clan Lab Certification course as well as Site Safety Officer course. He designed and assisted implementation of the methamphetamine lab program for the Albuquerque Police Department. Brian has a Bachelor’s Degree in Police Science and a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice both from New Mexico State University. Brian is co-author of the books: Narcotics Investigation: Working and Surviving and The Methamphetamine Handbook: What You Need to Know.
